A mission to capture the utter chaos and magic of being black and queer in your twenties, specifically in June 2015, in 90 minutes... one can only describe it as a roller coaster ride.

"Catia clearly trusts both the material and the cast, and has done an outstanding job at making us feel this is all just, well, happening. And this cast really brings the authenticity."

"Sassy, sexy, funny, poignant, bizarre, and vulgar, the hour and a half is crammed with fast, loud dialogue that will leave your head spinning."

Just 90 minutes long, “BLKS” is a play — and a production — to remember.

Magic

Costume Design by Jaimy Escobedo. Assistant Costume Designed by Catia. Lights by Thomas Edward. Set and Sound by Andrew Iacovelli.

A time capsule and homage to latin girlhood in 2008. The job was to capture both the terror, confusion, and giddy joy of growing up. It was difficult work toeing the line between horror and coming-of-age comedy made easier alongside lovely co-director Madison Cook-Hines.

"The opening night audience at Burbage Theatre laughed frequently at the antics of four diverse teenage girls, consummating with a loud standing ovation at the shocking ending."

"Casting such a small cast is key and the directors have succeeded in assembling a quartet with rich chemistry who believably squabble, talk over each other and provide sweet support when needed."

"Burbage Theatre Company's choice to finish their season with this production shows a lot of artistic courage. This is a bold and uncompromising play which may leave many audience members deeply shaken at the end."

"Co-directed by Catia and Madison Cook-Hines, this production grips the viewer from the first few moments and doesn’t let go until the smoke literally clears and Escobar maybe – or maybe not – saunters off."
